Chainsaw - Level I

Increase your peace of mind by knowing that your employees have received training on safe chainsaw use. This course was designed specifically for new or occasional chainsaw users, including grader operators, maintenance workers for outdoor facilities and gas plant operators.

Having them participate in our Chainsaw - Level I course can help you meet the requirements of legislation - as well as give you confidence that they have adequate information on safe chainsaw operation.

This course has both classroom and practical components. By the conclusion of the course, students will know about hazards, personal protective equipment (PPE), sharpening and refueling, the most common cuts and which trees to avoid. There is approximately 4 hours of classroom instruction followed by about 3 hours of actual chainsaw practice.

Course Outline

1. Introduction to Alberta OH&S Legislation

2. Basic Chainsaw Maintenance

3. Cutting Basics

4. Practical Cutting Exercises

5. Written Exam

Successful participants will receive a permanent certificate from Valion, valid for 3 years.

Important Notes:

1) This is NOT a faller certification course. This training is for those who use chainsaws periodically; to provide a fundamental understanding of safe chainsaw use and injury prevention.

2) Participants must wear safety footwear and bring their own gloves. Additional PPE will be provided during the practical portion of the training.
